Intel partners with Red Bull Media House taking Red Bull X-Fighters to new heights

MADRID, SPAIN – June 24, 2016 – When the first round of Freestyle Motocross (FMX) riders rolled into Las Ventas bullring to kickoff the 15th Anniversary of Red Bull X-Fighters in front of 20,000 spectators and a global audience tuned in on Red Bull TV, Red Bull Media House’s technology partnership with Intel® immediately took the action sports to new heights. The first project from the partnership, announced in January during Intel’s keynote speech at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, centers around Intel’s new technology that captures real time performance data; data that helps the judges, commentators, riders and fans better appreciate the breathtaking feats of the night.
The technology comprises a small, low power, almost weightless device that is mounted to each of the 12 participating bikes. The data collected in real-time is received by anchors on the ground at the venue and transmitted for processing in real-time to an Intel-powered NUC (Next Unit of Computing). Red Bull Media House shares this data in real time with the event commentators and with the television audience via high impact, on-screen graphics. Viewers watching on Red Bull TV from their smart phones, tablets or mobile devices could also click pull down menus to access data highlights from every run of every rider, a much easier way to marvel at the performance without having to pause or rewind the live action.
Beyond the broadcast, Intel technology is already making an impact on the sport. Red Bull X-Fighters, now 15 years old, thrives on innovation; fans expect to see new tricks and bold moves that safely push the sport in exciting new directions. Intel technology powered data, used during training, helped the riders perfect their moves before the competition.
During the event, sensors on the bikes and throughout the bullring captured precise data points including speed, distance, jump height and even the percentage of any given trick that was spent off the bike. The crowd cheered as Levi Sherwood (NZL) nailed a massive 13.7-meter high Indian Air Kiss of Death Back Flip, three-time Red Bull X-Fighters champion, Thomas Pagés (FRA), smacked his face into the handlebars while landing a 10.8 meter bike flip, Josh Sheehan (AUS) completed several double back flips (the hardest, biggest, most dangerous trick in the sport.)
Red Bull X-Fighters marks the first implementation of the partnership. More integrations will follow in the upcoming months with an aim of impacting the audience experience for both music and sporting events.

PTScientists to launch first private mission to land on the moon

Red Bull Media House selected as exclusive global media partner
Fifty years after the first humans stepped on the Moon, Berlin-based PTScientists, a group of new-space pioneers, will undertake the first private mission to land on the Moon. Red Bull Media House will be the mission’s exclusive global media production and distribution partner.
In the second half of 2019, ‘Mission to the Moon’ will be a robotic space exploration mission led by visionary Robert Böhme to return to the historic landing site of the Apollo 17 mission including the final footprints and the Moon buggy left behind on the lunar surface.
“We aim to create an ‘Apollo moment’ for a new generation. PTScientists believe that space belongs to everyone and Mission to the Moon will make space accessible for all to explore,” commented PTScientists’ CEO Böhme. “The original trust and support of Audi since 2015 and Vodafone since 2017 has been critical to our success so far, and we are proud that more iconic partners are joining us on our journey.”
Broadcasting live throughout and using cutting-edge chip technologies from Infineon, the spacecraft ALINA, the Autonomous Landing and Navigation Module, will transport a pair of lunar rovers, developed by Audi, to explore the harsh lunar environment and capture the first High Definition images from NASA’s historic Apollo 17 landing site. Together, they will carefully approach and study NASA’s Apollo 17 lunar roving vehicle that was used by the last astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt to explore the Moon in December 1972. Vodafone’s network expertise will be used to set up the Moon’s first 4G LTE network and will enable the Audi lunar quattro rovers to communicate and transfer scientific data and HD video back to ALINA, which will then transmit it to Earth. Red Bull Media House will work closely with PTScientists and its project partners, including mission timekeeper OMEGA and the Swiss running shoe brand On as mission gear partner, to tell the story of the mission.
Red Bull Media House will develop, produce and license the mission’s live broadcasts, behind the scenes footage, feature documentaries and flanker content, related books and magazine print editions, the mission’s musical soundtrack as well as managing the project’s global conversation across all social channels and media outlets around the world including:
- Three LIVE Programs featuring multi-device compatible, HD images from outer space from various camera angles including the start of the mission from Earth, the landing of ALINA on the Moon and the first glimpse of the original lunar roving vehicle, captured by the Audi lunar quattros
- A three-part documentary series of 52-minutes each chronicling the journey of the space pioneers from inception to accomplishment, produced by Terra Mater Factual Studios, producer of “The Ivory Game” (shortlisted for the best feature documentary Oscar 2017)
- Various hardcover and print editions as well as audio and musical events and licensing assets
