The UCI renews and expands TV production deal with Red Bull Media House

The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) today announced a three-year extension and expansion of its exclusive television production and media rights partnership with Red Bull Media House. This agreement (2016-2018) continues to change the way viewers around the world experience the Cross-Country Olympic (XCO) and Downhill (DHI) racing rounds of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano on Red Bull TV.

Pro cycling has thrived since the late 1860’s because the sport has constantly reinvented itself to remain fresh and exciting for riders, teams and fans. The first UCI Mountain Bike World Championships were held 25 years ago and steadily rose from an enthusiast sport to a worldwide sensation. In 2012, the UCI partnered with Red Bull Media House to leverage emerging technology to better connect and grow the fan base. This Spring, Red Bull Media House continues to bring the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano events to a worldwide audience via Red Bull TV.

In tandem with Red Bull TV, Red Bull Media House will use its multiple print, online and social media platforms to spotlight the sport’s riders and fresh faces while allowing fans to tour the host cities and meet loyal fans around the world.

“This extension of our deal with Red Bull Media House is a clear sign of the commitment of our partner to one of the world’s most spectacular cycling disciplines,” stated UCI President Brian Cookson.

“With Red Bull Media House as the exclusive distribution agency for the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup, a strategic partnership is in place to increase UCI’s global reach with high quality production, distribution and marketing.”

With microphones and cameras along the most thrilling stretches, turns, technical descents, single trails, rocky sections and obstacles within each course, Red Bull Media House will give fans a VIP pass to see every start, bump, jump, lead-change, spill, recovery and comeback along the way. Leading edge technology and interactive streams allow fans to stop, rewind and share the action.

“In our sport there’s a fine balance of being informative and professional without losing the raw emotion and excitement that makes downhill racing so special,” said Aaron Gwin, reigning and three-times winner of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Downhill.

Documentary ‘THE SMOKE THAT THUNDERS’ obtained two awards at Mountain Film Festival.

Cliff divers Orlando Duque and Jonathan Paredes tackle the world's largest waterfall in The Smoke that Thunders.

"This is one of the most beautiful places," says Duque, who, with 13 cliff-diving world titles, two Guinness world records and more than 20 years in the sport, has dived off most places it's possible to dive off. "Standing in the gorge, looking around, you think, 'This is unreal.' But what sets this dive apart from others is the analysis you've got to do. It's not as black and white as you think.“

Indeed. Victoria Falls in Southern Africa is the biggest curtain of water on earth and one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Every minute, 625 million litres of water plunge over the 100-metre waterfall and with a width of 1 708 metres and height of 108 meters, it is classified as the waterfall with the world's largest sheet of falling water. Victoria Falls is roughly twice the height of North America's Niagara Falls and in width is rivaled only by Argentina and Brazil's Iguazu Falls. It is known as “Mosi-oa-Tunya” in the local Tokaleya Tonga tongue.  This translates to ‚The Smoke that Thunders’ and is in reference to the famous spray, which – when the Zambezi River is in full flood, typically in April every year – can rise to 400-metres.

But recently, Victoria Falls has become known for something new as world-class cliff divers Orland Duque and Jonathan Paredes challenged themselves to one of the most astonishing cliff dives to date: a 30-metre dive from the world’s most iconic waterfall. It is a whole different ball game to previous dives the athletes have conquered, this river is ever changing and the 3m long crocodiles, shattered oars and eddies swirl waiting for the pair at the bottom of their dive make for an incredibly challenging analysis. Both athletes face their own challenges, Duque takes the responsibility of setting the limit on their ambition and of course dives first. Paredes, on the other hand, battles a visceral fear of climbing to the take-off spot, and often struggles to clear his mind of chattering doubt.

The Ivory Game shortlisted for the best feature documentary Oscar 2017

"The Ivory Game“ is among the 15 finalists for the best feature documentary Oscar.

The investigative ivory-trade doc produced by Terra Mater Film Studios, and executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio was shortlisted from a total of 145 submissions. The five final nominees will be announced January 24, along with the rest of this year’s Oscar nominees. The 89th Academy Awards will take place on February 26, 2017, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

The Ivory Game is an undercover feature-documentary which exposes the dark world of ivory trafficking. Award-winning director Richard Ladkani and Academy Award nominated director Kief Davison filmed undercover for 16 months, moving across the continents of Africa and Asia, documenting the deep-rooted corruption at the heart of the global ivory trafficking crisis.
